It seems graphics support is a bit weak in sdl would sfml be a better choice to create an isometric game. Also I would be using the same support for a tiled like program without predetermined map dimensions. I know flare uses sdl but I was just wondering if clint thought using sdl was a mistake.
In my opinion it is the best way if you choose which library is best for you (understandable API, powerful enough etc.) This is a very personal and subjective question.
Did you already check raylib?
