Not rewarding

I installed Flare today based on a recommendation. The game involves sitting around doing nothing in the very beginning, and that's a turn off. Creatures don't have to be hard to kill per se, but it shouldn't be so easy to die right away. You want people to play your game. Keep them moving, smashing things... make me smile when three goblin with spears come at me in the first zone, and i punch them down and take their gold so I can buy a weapon. So thanks for the 10 minutes of entertainment, but it isn't addicting. To recap, keep the player moving, let them be successful in the very beginning by not dieing so fast.
If it bothers you, just turn off permadeath ;)
If the beginning is made too easy, experienced players will find it boring IMHO, because there is not enough challenge.
I've died very early in the game, too. The trick is to buy armorpieces, as the armor will absorb damage, which makes you invulnerable to some attacks.
As ranger and magician you should keep on running however ^^. With any class you should also go for the shield spell, which will make the game a lot easier.
On the other hand, putting the gold into the stash will make deaths less frustrating, after all you are just losing gold and you are able to replay each dungeon to get infinite gold. So dieing is not as bad as it seems and a part of the game.
The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
if you go to the guy out infront of the mine in the town you start in he'll give you a quest if you're running the 0.15 version he'll only have one mission for you that he pays 20 gold up front use this to buy a weapon/armor. if your running the 0.19 version then just start rocking missions and you start with a basic weapon, skills, etc
