Ideas for games
Hello everybody. I create this topic for people who have interesting game ideas, but know that they will never have the time / motivation to program the game they think about.
If you want, you can give your ideas here to other programmers so they can make the game themselves.
I am starting with this one :
a "Worms" clone, with retro graphics, using this image from OGA.
I even thought about a name for this game : "Annelids".
I don't know if we can require crediting for being the author of an idea we post here, personnally I don't mind to be credited.
I also thought an RPG in Ancient Egypt would be interesting.
Anything with furries!
also, this is a good idea for a thread actually. :) thumbs up
"Worms" is itself a clone: Scorched Earth so a worms clone would be a scorched earth clone clone. :)
I had an idea for a sort of RTS game where the units- a bat/cat-like race- are evolved/mutated in various ways to adjust their stats and specializations.
--Medicine Storm
@medicinestorm
A cute looking and unique species, a game like that must be really hard to balance, I would imagine,,
@medicinestorm
Excellent, I like this bat/cat species. Are you the author of this art?
Thanks!
I would guess balance would be no more difficult than any other strategy game balancing; the stat benefits are (indirectly) proportional to the resources required to mutate.
Yes, this is one of my early attempts at pixel art. I'm glad you like the concept. :)
--Medicine Storm
Congratulations, then :-)
Do you intend to post it here on OGA?
I always considered them far too specific to be useful to others, but that is exactly the sort of thing I encourage others to submit anyway, isn't it? I'll have to see about posting them, then. Thanks, Xom.
--Medicine Storm
I encourage you to post them, but of course it is as you wish.
ok lets do it!
DATS ONE
Game setap-in not far future, most of land surface of planet covered in megacity.
all types of physical labor are performed by robots. humans work in since, art and enterteining.
one dayprotogonist going home, but auto drive car him to meeting point with gaverner AI.
it tell him about evacuation training in one of the sectors of the city was not a training and it lost contact with military and since AI part, and have no idea or time to deal with it.
Protocols dictate to use/ask humanto help in this...(first part of the game is to get connetc to military AI)
after 1/4 of game you get connected with sicne AI, and it tell you about what happend.
some alien invasion, military and since AI slow down and stardy invasion, disconnected them selfs to protecg humans,
1/2 of the game you saving military AI.
last part of the game you figthing with alien, win, humans and AIs save!
Thats a basic story.
Gameplay-you controle mecha unit (3d persone), and have squad of 3 more units (most likely mechas)
and here is a fun and educationpart of the game-
your squad behave automatically on situation of the field, they are AIs,
orders sistem-small slow time when giving them orders to move some where of do some thing,
*complex orders-chain of orders + situationla behavior + situational order
situationla behavior setted up be class or chassis, equipment, weapons e.t.c.
(using boston dinamiks mechs is recomended)
DATS TWO
Setting in near future, after meteor shower in August all metals on planet (all raw) start to change a bit. People rejoice, technological progress, start to make a WALKERS mechs (main mashine to operate later) After some time, after few first walker in mining (protogonist place), minig operation attacked by metal animals and insects (dogs, wasps) (scout and support later in game)(consist entirely of metals above the melting point) people are frightened, you start fight em for few missions, discovering later it is only scouts for aliens, you start to see aliens walkers fight em, some bosses big and scary. at end of game you eble to talk with aliens find out they only testing weapons of this planet, and do not see us reasonable form of life. now they apologize and ready to leave. but telling you, they have wage a thousand-year war with other aliens (reson for testing and the pre set for second game). both factions are equal in strength and can not win or lose.
So about mechanis, Walker mechs are what you piloting and fitingwith, equip all kinds of weapon and parts*. mosly FPS but with strategik parts, us summon cover and support units. game flow- faster then MWO, slower then gandams. you summon metal from earth and us it for cover suport units regen hp, enemys to. HP of mech dividedly between torso and arms and legs.weapon placment in uper part and can be damaged or destroid. different chassis with different features. it is two different games, bouth is shooters, but they are taktical shooters.
if some one will use it as base for game, please notify me, i can help.
Mr.melon
sounds extremely complex to pull off, cool nonetheless!
it is, there for i not able to make them alone.
but, if pulled off, they will be good.
Mr.melon
on the cabat race rts thing... would the opposing race be like humans that use technology to achieve different stats and abilities / unit types? That might be cool. Just total unit customization, but one race uses genetic engineering and the other just engineering...
Well, in the dream (this was all from a very vivid dream I had) it was sometimes cabat vs cabat, but more often cabat vs badger-chamelion-pangolin (who have an entirely different set of mutations). Both of which were "sculpted" or genetically manipulated by some crazy human clan of biomancers (genetic magic?), who were ultimately the Big-Bad you'd have to fight. Their units were oversized mutated arthropods (scorpions, spiders, so on) with parts of their bodies modified to make room for a person to "sit" in and control. Kind of a biological exoskeletal tank, etc.
That is just where this came from though, I'm not opposed to diverging from that for the sake of a better game, of course. :)
--Medicine Storm
I am more and more a fan of your game concept, MedicineStorm !
So the list of ideas for now is :
- a game with furries
- a sci-fi game with alien invasion, mechas, and an IA
- a strategy game based on evolutions/mutations, involving Cabats (bat-cat species) / Badgolins (badger-chamelion-pangolin species) / Biomancers armies.
- Annelids, a Worms clone
- an Ancient Egypt RPG
Maybe one day, when we have enough ideas here, we could make an "grant a wish" game jam, where developpers work on interesting ideas given on this topic, and people who gave the ideas can play the game they always wanted.
Of course now it is still too early, we would need more ideas here.
MedicineStorm's idea is very cool!
I would go for it if it wasn't a strategy game...
Hah! I just had the most ingenious idea for a furry game!
not really... but an idea at least!
A Yie Ar Kung Fu clone with furries... interesting.
About my 2 ideas :
- I created a collection for the egyptian RPG some monthes ago :
https://opengameart.org/content/egypt
- I have created an "Annelids" collection just now, I will update it in the next days :
https://opengameart.org/content/annelids-potential-assets
Yie Ar Kung Fu da best game!
Annelids collection updated :-)
Awww shit, stuck with no ideas again!! D:
I really like the idea of bullet hell games but I genuinely don't like any bullet hell games... So, it's weird. I think the closest I've ever come to one is Enter the Gungeon. I love just about everything with that game except procedural generation and it's grinding nature, based more in luck than skill.
So, I was thinking it'd be cool to make a game closer to Zelda: link to the past, with equipment based progression, puzzles and worldly interactions but with the chaos of bullet hell. Instead of the awkward shield that's in lttp, maybe have a "shield generator" that can be erected and block attacks from all directions, as long as it has energy which will recharge on its own after some time.
I dunno, it's something I've kinda wanted to do for a few years now but content creation would be massively time consuming and I'm already buried in my current project to even consider starting something of that scale. If I was to attempt anything on the side, it'd have to be something simple and more like a mobile game. Anyway, if someone took that idea anywhere, I'd be your number 1 fan. :D
Ahh, actually that does sound like a very interesting idea! I could see that being done with my characters even :O
I also have an idea for you... "Hayden Kart" !!
Another great suggestion!!! Give that woofer a car and he be making the roads dangerous...
Don't know how to do 3D graphics though,, that'll kinda be the challenge....
Super chonkerdoge kart!!
https://opengameart.org/content/super-chonkerdoge-kart
Well done! Happy new year !!
Thanks, you too ^^
So, as Spring asked me if I have a plot for the Egyptian RPG, and as I think I will never have the time to do this RPG, I have decided to give the plot here. Click the different links in the description below to see which art I would use for the characters.
Seth, the evil god, has helped an illegitimate pharaoh to take power.
The real pharaoh and his wife have been captured and are detained in the fake pharaoh's palace, somewhere in the desert.
Furthermore, the god of the dead Anubis is on Seth's side and created an army of mummies for him.
The hereoes of the game must :
- fight Anubis, then convince him to drop Seth and stay loyal to the other gods
- destroy the fake pharaoh, free the royal family
- fight Seth, banish him
Here are the heroes :
- the prince (son of the pharaoh) => a warrior, better at short-range fight
- the princess (daughter of the pharaoh) => good at fighting too, but more a magician
- the mercenary (the prince's love interest) => a thief and a mercenary, fights with a bow. Feels loyal to the real pharaoh despite being a thug, and joins the 2 other main characters. When she starts fighting on their side, she does not even know that they are the pharaoh's daughter and son.
During the adventure, the characters would get magical powers from the different egyptian gods : Ra, Horus, Thot, Bastet, Sobek... even Anubis, after he changes side.
That's it. Not a great plot, but this is the idea I had if I made an RPG in Ancient Egypt.
A simple plot maybe, but it might work well also for a gauntlet type game! Many of those assets you've collected will probably need to be redrawn though, as they're not very coherent in style. It's a start though!
What about a humble peasant character too? xD
I have to admit I'm starting to become a little bit intrigued by this egyptian game idea :3
but what era of ancient egypt are you imagining the game would be set in? Before the greek invasion, during the greek rule or even during the roman rule?
Or maybe any sort of historical accuracy isn't a concern at all...
Unrelated to the egyptian idea but still related to "Ideas for Games" :
Do you think Haydenwoffle 2 or Spring's Adventure Doggo 2 would be better/nicer to see first?
So to answer your comments :
1) Yes, the assets are in very different graphic styles and sizes, which complicates things.
Let's say they are models for new assets to produce.
2) No, I never thought about a peasant, but why not?
3) The era : any era of the egyptian history set before greek and roman rule.
I prefer not selecting a historical context too precise, because there would be the risk of historical inconsistencies.
I prefer letting it a little vague, with fictionnal characters, especially a fictionnal pharaoh, not a real one.
I had an idea for a variation on the plot where the prince and princess would either be turned into peasants, or simply be disguised as them, so that the mercenary wouldn't be able to reckognize them as royals.
Yes, it could be added to the plot, maybe.
By the way, this one is not an Ancient Egypt RPG, but nearly : there is a game on Itch called Void Pyramid.
It is set in a distant future where the egyptian civilization is back and rules Earth.
You play a soldier, slave, or scribe, who is an opponent to the pharaoh, and has been sent in a prison in space, the Void Pyramid.
The goal is of course to escape from there. There are several possible endings.
I really like the concept : egyptian civilization + science-fiction with a dystopic atmosphere.
The guy who made this game had a great idea.
True enough! I also love its visual style ! But I'm sure there's room for another egyptian themed game as well.
What about the Haydenwoffle 2/Spring's Adventure Doggo 2 question, it's ok if you don't have anything to say about it too though...
Sorry, I did not see about this question.
I would say an Adventure Doggo 2.
thanks for your feedback, yeah I'm inclined to agree with you because the SAD mechanics are more simple and self explanatory, easier to understand, the hard thing is just doing the level design, that's always my big gripe with platformers and that sort of games. The original was also made in 8 months whereas stuff for the jam has to be made within 1....
Yes, that is the problem with jams. You never have enough time to produce games that you want.
That is why, when I will be good with GDevelop, I will make some small games for the jams, and make my "more ambitious" games outside of jam periods.
Well, now I am going to take a dinner and sleep, it is a bit late in my time zone :)
Bye
Have a nice meal and sleep,
This morning I also had an idea for a game about a child who can transform into huge insectoid monsters. So the government wants to capture them.
So now we have :
- "Annelids" (proposed by me)
- the egyptian RPG (proposed by me)
- cabats / badgolins / biomancers strategy game (proposed by MedicineStorm)
- a sci-fi game with alien invasion, mechas, and an IA (proposed by anti10188)
- "Yie Ar Kung Fu-rries" (proposed by Spring, title proposed by me)
- "Super Chonkerdoge Kart" (proposed by me, title proposed by Spring)
- a bullet hell game (proposed by VinnNo.0)
- a game with a boy with morphing powers, tracked by his country's governement (proposed by Spring)
One day, we should make a special jam with these ideas.
The rule would be : everyone works on somebody else's idea.
I could host this :)
that's a great idea for a game jam to be honest,,
Giant bugs have infested earth
So people have to live in underground bunkers
This one bunker is built under a mountain with 4 vaults opening to a large hall under the top of the mountain.
Each vault is controlled by a faction (so 4 factions)
1. Hermit faction: locked themselves in and placed nukes on their hall door just in case someone tries to open it
2. Gatherer faction: they go outside time to time to gather resources
3. ??? faction: ???
4. ??? ?????
Anyway player takes the role of a kid who has to clean the vault, kill small bugs which found their ways into the bunker through small cracks and fill those cracks. Those small bugs are fast and if left alone they gradually get bigger.
After a few boring levels maybe you can join the gatherer faction and go outside or find a way into the hermit factions vault
What about a simple RPG set in the distant future where worship of the Antichrist has become extremely common, I don't know much about the gameplay yet though, but it could be a cool setting imo.
I already have an idea for a title : Earth under Antichrist...
and it could maybe use the dawnLike tileset..
here's another idea for a game!
Ultimate Bear Wrestling Circuit!
where you have to wrestle enormous hordes of bears at the same time by throwing them into one another
I could use chasersgaming's wrestling characters and just draw a bear in the same style...
