Hey there awesome people on OpenGameArt (this is my first post). I got to the point where I have to add controller prompts in the menu of my game, so I thought.. instead of making just the 2/3 buttons I need... why not make Over 500?
And so I did :) a full day of work later, I give you the FREE keyboard and con.. oh I said that already in the title.

Hope it comes in handy and please share it with other fellow developers in need!
Keep being awesome :)
*NOTE: Due to Sony's trademark of the ∆○×□ icons ("triangle circle cross square"), the corresponding buttons have been omitted from this pack. Although the use of these symbols is generally considered Nominative Fair Use, there may be circumstantial restrictions on their application. OpenGameArt.org (OGA) feels this conflicts with the implied freedom of Creative Commons Zero (CC0) and so, out of an abundance of caution, have separated the trademarked icons to ensure no developer finds themselves in legal trouble as a result of using these assets. If you have deemed the use of these symbols acceptable for your project, the omitted buttons are still available from the external website http://thoseawesomeguys.com/prompts

Heya, awesome pack! Thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity can you share what the game was that you made them for?
Thanks!
Hey :D Glad you like them!
The game I'm currently working on is called Concerned Joe
(you can see it here http://concernedjoe.com/)
Hope you like this one too :D
awesome! A mac 'option' button, you really did get completist with it!
Puts my low-res set to shame! :)
Cool part is that the third control set posted in the last few days, so there's a lot for folks to choose from up here now.
Quick legal question, what is the origin of the font for all the keys/letters?
PS
Game looks great too!
Very nice! Is it possible to add Release and also Drag for the gestures as defaults?
This is awesome!!!
If you are looking or anything to add I would say...
- male finger option for swipe gestures
- Moga Controller
IANAL but since these images depict trademarks, wouldn't most usages of these images fall foul of trademark law? That is, unless you are making a controller identification utility, you may not want to use the exact image of real controllers?
I am pretty sure they are just for demonmstration purposes, which makes perfect sense.
Your work is far better than what I tried to do for my game, I adopted it, you'll be on the credits for the next release :]
Impressive work!
Awesome content :) Way to go!
Would you mind adding the vector file in a more popular file format (e.g. svg, pdf, ai, eps) or can anyone provide a converted file?
Awesome pack and thank you
Nice pack; whilst working on a GCW-Zero port I made some buttons for that device, hope it's useful: http://opengameart.org/content/gcw-zero-buttons
(Also licensed as CC0)
Please include this in your pack!
...theres no F1, F2 etc keys for keyboard... but at least theres blanks so i guess ill make some
but THANKS ALOT!! .. nice to have xbox buttons! these all look great!
Hey, oops, forgot about those.
Here, I just made them for you (both black and white) - http://puu.sh/dyVrT/9dae82f8be.zip
Also added them to the pack.
Hope they are useful :D
~ Nick
cool thanks! .. yeah im using this for default key configs page / screen
im using F keys like battlefield, where its to change what seat youre in, in a vehicle.
The file seems to be broken. It stops after about 250kb download everytime. :(
Is the one on dropbox the same? the one here has a "2" attached to the filename. Which one is newer?
Used in this game: http://itmatters.mobi/demo/iso_n/
Credits available in-game.
I just added some more stuff:
http://files.fortressofdoors.com/XeluControllerPlus.zip
-Logitech Controller
-New Steam Controller
-Directional inputs for (most) analog buttons
Also updated the vector source.
Enjoy! Please consider it released under the same license as the original.
Awesome pack !! Thanks a lot, i'll probably use it in my game ! =)
Big big big thank !
Loving these, and will definitely be using them in my game!
I do have one request though: it would be really nice if you could make a full-on keyboard in a single image! I'll see if i 100% need to because i can get by with just the individual keys but it would make it a lot quicker to do a how-to-play menu!
Again though: thanks a lot for the great content!
These are amazing! It's really cool to see so many platforms unified under one clean style.
The gestures are the only bit that feel out of place, and the next best thing would be to have the full controllers in a matching style.
The preview included in the download contains the actual controller images which is clearly not cc0
These are amazing!
What an impressive job.
Hey there, I'd need the buttons for the GameCube (Controller) as well.
Is there a way to commision those?
I've already done X and Y (although I'm not really proud of them), used A and B from XBOX360 from here and the rest are currently the Wii icons.
If anyone else needs them, they're also CC0
This is exactly what I needed. We are going to use it in this game: https://gamedevunite.itch.io/cambio
Thank you so much!
Your are officially on the credits of FAR Colony (for the December 23rd snapshot release).
I using some of your work in the Knowledge Base:
http://wiki.farcolony.com/GUI_KeyboardShort.html
Thanks again for your work!
It's an impressive work.
The website I'm currently working use this awsome pack.
Thank you for your job!
I'm going to be that guy and nitpick some of the keyboard bindings. They aren't killing me here and I can always use the blanks to just do whatever I want, but it sounds like you want to know about this stuff so I'm passing along what I found. I discovered all this while figuring out how to map the key aliases in the Unity InControl asset to the sprites. Since that was a comprehensive list of supported bindings, I think I found many of them.
There are a few things that could be categorically improved:
This is the raw list of junk I wrote down while I was doing the conversions:
Overwhelming appreciation!
This is really great!
It is possible to make a Illustrator / Inkscape file (.ai / .svg)?
And can you make the Gamecube buttons?
Thank you!!
Is it Legal to use these buttons in our games, or does it violate any trade marks?
Man, I love these buttons you ROCK!
Hey dear xelu
I just wanna to say that I used your asset in my free game
and put your name and a link to this page in the Credits.
Thank you!

This is great, thanks!
Unfortunately I noticed a few problems with the Switch buttons.
- The SL & SR buttons are missing from the pack (these are the shoulder buttons that become visible when you detach the Joy-Con).
- This pack lists LT, RT, LB, and RB shoulder buttons. The Switch doesn't use these buttons, the correct buttons are L, R, ZL, and ZR. If you use different names your game will fail Nintendo Lotcheck.
I've just created all the correct buttons. Attached to this post are new SL & SR buttons, as well as all the correct buttons for L, R, ZL, and ZR. They're based on the original art from the creator, but if they're okay with it feel free to use these for your Switch project instead.
Enjoy! :)
Nice work thank you! <3
Awesome work. Thanks alot for this. I'd use it in my game and credit you properly, but there is still this one rather important question:
Is it legal to use this icons? For example, the PlayStation icons square, cross, triangle and circle are trademarked:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_controller
Many people here already replied that they will use those icons, so can they step up and tell me if everything is cleared out with the licencing of if they just dont care?
@docfo4r: hmm... that is a registered trademark of Sony. I was not aware of that. I haven't been able to find usage guidelines for them either.
3rd party developers have always used exactly this kind of asset in their PS games, but that may have always been "fair use" or something similar. If anyone knows more about Sony's usage guidelines for trademarked button icons, please share. Until we know more, I have to mark this as having a licensing issue.
@xelu: these are such great assets it would be a shame to lose access to the whole set. Would you be willing to omit the "triangle", "circle", "cross", and "square" icons? That would leave the rest usable and give the developer the opportunity to fill in the blanks with their own "fair use" versions if they found that to be acceptable
Speaking as a console game developer here: you're free to use these icons in your games. Console games need to be approved by the platform holders (PlayStation, Nintendo, MS, etc), and they know that you need buttons like these to communicate how your game works to you players. There are some guidelines, if you stick to them then it's no problem. If you don't stick to them the platform holder will tell you. An asset bundle like this would be considered fair use - as long as you use them for the intended purpose (implementing them into your game).
We shipped multiple console games with these icons and it has always been okay. Since they look like the official icons it's easier to keep the platform holders happy anyway.
@MvdM: that is great to hear. Are there any links or documents you could provide that offer some official usage guidance? As we both mentioned, it is obvious game devs must be allowed to use such icons in their games, but there are often still stipulations from the trademark holder.
If Sony says 'these are ok to use, but only in playstation games', then there is still an issue. These assets are licensed CC0 meaning developers can use them in any way, including sony-competing platforms.
I'm hoping with your experience developing console games you may have access to official guidelines about this. If not, well... the trademarked parts constitute a very small portion of this fantastic set of assets, so removing just those parts is not as terrible a loss. :)
i don't see anything here that says that these icons are trademarked from Sony.
https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/legal/copyright-and-trademark-notice/
can you really copyright a shape? , maybe the shape design(like a font) and colour association could be trademarked, maybe just change the colours around. orange X and blue square or something like them.
Controller configurations are always going to be needed, i think assets like these, as long as they dont have a named brand associated with them or tags as such should be OK. Maybe we could 'turn a blind eye' to assets like these that are 'fair use'. :)
Yeah, I missed it at first too (see attached screenshot).
Yes, unfortunately shapes can be trademarked. Actually, all logos are basically just trademarked shapes. Some more complex than others. The main requirement is that the shape be distinct. A circle or triangle or "cross" by itself would not be distinct enough but the combination of triangle circle cross square is... and more specifically the purpse they are applied to: controller buttons.
P.S. Unfortunately, we must draw a distinction between fair use and CC0. (or any other license on OGA, for that matter). Fair use has restrictions on it that CC-* licenses do not have (and often do not even allow). Many of the fair-use restrictions are situation-specific, which is impossible for us to govern when sharing assets that game dev's want to be certain are free and clear.
I encourage all devs to take advantage of fair-use resources, but the decision about what is acceptable and what is not acceptable (regarding fair-use) must lie with the developer and their individual circumstances, not OGA.
First off, I'm not a lawyer.
From what I know, in most parts of the world,
trademarks are there to stop people from creating counterfeit products.
This is why you can't use trademarks to advertise something.
I doubt that using one of the icons to informs players about the button mapping,
can be considered a trademark violation,
as soon as it's not part of your marketing. (e.g not using it inside promotion material).
For example, you can't create a PlayStation-compatible controller and slap the PlayStation icons on there, without Sony's permission. (That's the whole purpose of it).
Copyright is not the matter here. (Actual graphics from Sony's Developer Kit, might be eligible for copyright).
If you really want to know the state of trademarks in your country, just look at the corrseponding law text.
This will give you more certainty than anything anyone here can write.
Either way, believe me, after Valve uses these icons in their Big Picture mode, and serveral other studios in their PC games,
an Indie game will be the least of their concern. You will probably get a "friendly" letter/mail to remove it, before they take any legal action.
Also you missed, that the trademarked item in that notice is solely "triangle cricle x square" in that order.
EDIT: A person actually noticed that while I was writing this.
^I mostly agree, though whether playstation legal team notices a violation here or not is irrelevant. Whether it is a violation or not is.
There's the rub. CC0 tells people they can use it in promotion material and marketing campaigns. Unless we can get some official guidence clarifying this, we must assume the trademark holder does not allow that... which makes it incompatible with CC0. However, the reason I suggested removing just the ∆○×□ buttons is so each downloader can make that fair-use determination on their own, and add their own in (or not) to the set.
I get all that, just... well, yeah, leave no room for error. :)
Thanks. I honestly think this is the stupidest licensing flag I've ever issued, but Sony has a legit trademark. :(
what can you do, it is what it is, best thing to do is like you said, remove the shapes from the buttons and let the user put them together. :)
@MedicineStorm: I think you are misreading this. Triangle, Circle, X, Square is a specific playstation branding trademark. Those four symbols, in that order, presented together. That is trademark. If you look at marketing materials for Sony products, you will often see that exact symbol. I belive this is the trademark, not the individual symbols. Further down you will see another icon combing those symbols on a square button. That is also trademarked. But the four symbols themselves are not trademarked.
I don't believe Sony can or has trademarked the use of those symbols on a controller button. Xbox controller, for example, very prominently features an X on a controller button.
Could be wrong, and do agree with your general stance that 'not likely to sue' and 'you'll get a friendly letter asking you to remove it' are not the appropriate standard for materials on OGA.
CC0 is something to help you deal with copyright, not with trademark issues.
You're allowed to copy and use that graphic, even for promotional purposes.
(Which makes sense in case you own a trademark license, or use that graphic in a modified form where no trademark license is required)
It does not give you the right to use any trademark depicted in that graphic.
Plus I don't see "triangle square cross circle"-combination in the pack, that the trademark notice is about. Only as seperate icons.
A trademark consists of multiple shapes. And a similarity of trademarks can also be a violation.
Thus you should not even care about trademarks, imo, until really necessary.
You can always be sued over anything. Whether that person has the right to do so, decides the judge, not you, not that person.
EDIT: Removed unecessary phrases.
If you've set yourself as a standard at OGA not to allow trademarked icons, I think it wouldn't hurt to add a notice, regarding the use of these symbols in that order.
@withthelove: I think that is a valid viewpoint. As far as I can tell, the complete trademark does not appear in this set. Unless new information comes to light that contradicts this, I beleive there is no issue with this submission. Thank you for correcting me in a civil and logical discussion. :)
