Animated Shadowy Portraits
(The above files are animated - click them to play)
Hello, thank you for checking out my asset pack!
These are animated portraits of people shrouded in darkness. Think interviews with anonymized persons on Witness Protection programs. Or interrogations with people who are about to make you need WP.
The current version of this pack includes 6 unique faces, plus 4 minor variants.
=-=-=-=-=-=-Info=-=-=-=-=-=-
These are AI-generated faces (from code such as this: https://github.com/lucidrains/stylegan2-pytorch).
They were edited and animated into the final style with Krita. Source files with non-destructive filters and animation keyframes are included, as well as the original AI-generated images.
If you use the individual frames and not the .gif files, they were animated and planned to be cycled at 16 FPS. I did not experiment with slower or faster framerates.
Files are 128x128 px. If you want to use these images as a higher resolution, rendering frames or videos from the source Krita files with Nearest Neighbor sampling should give you identically sharp results, no matter how many times you double their size. If you need to reproduce the edits done to the raw images for some reason, they were also downscaled using Nearest Neighbor filtering.
One example of an image downscaled with bilinear sampling can be seen on face N° 8's variant.
Most faces have minor variants such as the one mentioned above; the other ones were added when i couldn't tell which version would be preferred by most people.
Examples include versions with or without blinking, with or without lighting that affects the background, etc.
If this pack does well, i can update it with more variants that people request. Feel free to send me a message or comment on this pack's page with specific requests.

Croomfolk, would you be willing to indicate the specific AI tool used here, including version of AI tool and a link to the AI tool's Terms of Use page?
Hello, I'm sorry for the delay in replying! Holiday season swamped me and afterwards I forgot to open the website until now.
The tool used is this: https://github.com/lucidrains/stylegan2-pytorch which is under the MIT license. The web version is also linked on the repo, the website doesn't indicate a version but it would have been the one online during early 2022.
To be honest, I made this before the AI boom and now feel a bit sour about the project both because of all that's come to happen since then, and because even though the AI tool is freely licensed, the dataset used isn't public... it's a small model trained only on one type of portrait, there's no stolen art there, but I still feel nervous about keeping it online post-flooding of itch and similar platforms with AI.
Understood. After you submitted these, the submission guidelines changed to require listing of the GAN (which you've done) and the version (which might actually need to be the version number of StyleGan, not the pytorch project based on it.) and a link to the GAN's Terms of Use. The MIT license is the code license for the pytorch project, not the usage terms for StyleGan. The usage terms appear to be some form of academic-use-only terms, but as you said this may have been so early in the AI hype-train that Terms of Use weren't even a consideration at the time. All that to say, you didn't do anything wrong, the rules changed while you weren't looking. Haha!
Well, I don't know if it will make you feel better or worse about it, but another thing that changed after this was submitted: all AI assisted submissions will be download-disabled until the courts figure out what to do about AI generated artwork. We already know any AI generated artwork cannot be copyrighted, but that doesn't preclude it from possibly violating the copyright of its training data. See https://opengameart.org/content/artificial-intelligence-assisted-artwork and let me know if you have any questions. Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you.
