[LPC Expanded] Xlong Hair
Over at the ULPC, there’s a subcategory called “very long” under hair. However, there’s a specific hairstyle called “Xlong” that was made by Nila122. I assume this is a name given to it by others who added it, as from what I see, Nila122 only labeled it as “long hair”.
Unlike most hairstyles, this one actually had some animations to most of the existing frames, and as such, when the V3 bases got updated, it appears Xlong never did, making it very obvious there were many issues with the hairstyle.
As part of my cleanup of assets I went and also decided to finish up this Xlong hairstyle! I restored the original split fg/bg frames by Nilla, made some tweaks/modifications to make a single fg/bg fit both male and female bodies and heads, and added new animations.
However, I had some of my own “extra long” hairstyles I had made early last year but never finished… so I decided to finish those up as well!
This release is actually MOSTLY new hairstyles, while also including updates to two existing ones. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many hairstyles I would consider to be “Xlong”, so most of this winds up being new.
Here’s the complete list of assets included:
-
NEW HAIRSTYLES (by me, JaidynReiman)
-
Xlong Wavy
-
This hairstyle is for an OC of mine called “Princess Shayala”.
-
Its fully animated!
-
Originally this hairstyle had a bun built into it. I decided to split that bun off into a separate asset under “Hair Extensions”.
-
This hairstyle is intended to be an elegant princess-style hairstyle, obviously give the character I based this on is a fantasy princess. I originally designed this hairstyle about 10 months ago, but I kept stalling due to the animation frames.
-
A few months after I made the initial hairstyle, I added the spellcast animations, taking inspiration from Nila122’s “Xlong” hairstyle.
-
-
Relm XLong (also CC-BY-SA 3.0)
-
https://opengameart.org/content/lpc-relm-hair-xlong-ponytail
-
This hairstyle is intended to be a “down” version of my original “Relm” hairstyle, aka XLong Ponytail.
-
Its fully animated!
-
Originally I planned to call it “Xlong Wavy 2” or “Xlong Wavy” (with Shayala’s being “2”) but I decided against that.
-
Most of the frames are thicker versions of the original ponytail, but I did make a few adjustments here and there to make it look more natural. I added some hair over the shoulders or over the back when the back shifts into the foreground.
-
I also redrew the run animation slightly while trying to keep it a similar style. When I tried to direct port it, due to the change in how the hair is down now some frames didn’t look great, but I think it looks quite nice now.
-
-
Xlong Large Curls
-
I had a hard time coming up with a good name for this one. Originally I wanted to go with “Wavy Curly”, but I came up with a better hairstyle idea for that name I want to create later. Its called “Large Curls” because unlike traditional curly hairstyles, while it very much is curly its in larger batches.
-
This is based on an OC of mine called “Hana”. However, the hair used for her is technically based on an old Gaia Online curly hairstyle given I never really had her with a finalized design. I did not use any parts from the old hairstyle, its simply inspired by it.
-
Due to how complicated it is, I didn’t finish animating it. I’m not even sure where to begin at this point.
-
I labeled this as “Xlong” because I designed a shorter version of this hairstyle as well, where I just trimmed a bit off of the length. Its still a pretty long hairstyle, though.
-
-
Large Curls
-
This is a shorter version I made of Xlong Large Curls. Its still quite long, though.

-
NEW HAIR EXTENSIONS! (by me, JaidynReiman)
-
“Hair Extensions” simply refer to assets that are designed to go over hairstyles. I have tried to make them flexible so you can use them with ANY hairstyle, but I cannot guarantee they’ll work with all hairstyles. At the very least, they will work with the hairstyles they’re designed to go with.
-
XLong Wavy Bangs
-
Designed to go with “Xlong Wavy”.
-
Designed to be used with Long Wavy Bangs, but you can mix-and-match, use it solo, or even double it up if you wish. I cannot guarantee how the results will look, but feel free to be flexible!
-
This is really just the bangs for my OC Princess Shayala. The left bang, to be specific.
-
Fully animated!
-
These were designed to be a left bang, however, I have included both left and right versions like my other bangs hair extensions.
-

Long Wavy Bangs

This is really just the bangs for my OC Princess Shayala. The right bang, to be specific.
-
Fully animated!
-
These were designed to be a right bang, however, I have included both left and right versions like my other bangs hair extensions.
-
-
High Bun
-
This is actually the top of my Xlong Wavy hairstyle.
-
I noticed it was actually static, though, so I felt like I could split it off and make it a flexible asset so it can be used with any hairstyle if you wish.
-
It also makes the base Xlong Wavy more flexible, too—you don’t have to have the bun anymore.
-
Naturally, this is part of the hairstyle for my OC “Princess Shayala”.
-
-
Xlong Curly Bangs
-
This is not related to an existing hairstyle, but I think I might make this one later based on Xlong Large Curls. Basically, I want a curly hair style where the hair starts off wavy but gets really curly at the end.
-
This is for an OC I created called “Svetlanya”. Her design isn’t fully finalized yet, but I really liked this bangs design.
-
I planned to animate these, but I decided against it because it was taking longer than I wanted to finish everything else. However, I have included left and right versions like my other bangs hair extensions.
-
The original curly bangs design I based this on was inspired by an AI generated art design I came up with for a character. I usually don’t get a lot of good designs from AI, but this particular one I really liked so I wanted to try and design the bangs to finalize the idea I was looking for.
-
-
Long Straight Bangs
-
These bangs are for a new OC design I’m planning.
-
I didn’t animate these yet, but I mapped them to all frames real quick just to get them out of the way.
-
Contains left and right versions by design.
-
-
Relm’s Ponytail (Xlong Ponytail)
-
https://opengameart.org/content/lpc-relm-hair-xlong-ponytail
-
Based on my OC Relm’s hairstyle.
-
I tweaked the animation slightly. A few frames I didn’t like so I cleaned them up a bit. I replaced the jump frames, emote 3, a few combat frames, and added spellcast animations, too.
-
The majority of the ponytail was already its own layers. I just made a few tweaks to make it work as a standalone ponytail if you wish to try it out on other “base” hairstyles.
-
Obviously this is designed to work alongside an existing hairstyle. It probably won’t look good on its own, but separating it off into its own asset might give you greater flexibility on existing hairstyles!

New Animations!
-
Xlong (original by Nila122)
-
I adored this Xlong hairstyle by Nila122 and really liked the animations here.
-
I actually took some inspiration from the spellcast here for my Xlong Wavy and Relm Down spellcast animations as well. I even used these spellcast animations to help make jump look a bit nicer.
-
For this hairstyle, I restored the original fg/bg layers and fixed the positioning across the base frames. I tried to make the background layers a bit more consistent as originally, some frames almost exclusively used the darkest palette color instead of mostly using the second-darkest.
-
I didn’t add too much in terms of new frame animations. I kept the OG animations and reused them as much as possible. I did add some new foreground layers where the body shifts around a lot so the hair appears in front when the body shifts so the back is more in front on certain frames (like on some run and revised combat frames).
-
-
New Frames + Minor Adjustments
-
Sara’s Hair (OGA-By 3.0)
-
Other than Nila122’s Xlong this is the only existing hairstyle that appeared to fit the definition of “Xlong” to me.
-
I restored the original fg/bg layer split and made modifications to make it look good over male heads.
-
I added an extra tweak to the bg layer so the front hair layer also appears in the back, giving more visibility to the “south” facing hair.
-
I fixed north facing shoot so the arms don’t appear in front of the north-facing hair in the fg. I didn’t like this cutout in the original one on the ULPC as it didn’t make sense. The solution to fix this problem would be to have the hair shift left when the body shifts, but of course, the original never had thrust/shoot animations either where it would shift the hair a bit to be slightly angled.
-
NOT ANIMATED!
-
As fun as it would have been to animate it, I already spent more time on this project than I wanted. Plus, unlike Xlong, the original was never animated to begin with, nor are there any variant frames at all.
-
I tested it out by using lpctools to drop the layers on all frames, and I think it looks pretty solid. It would look better on run/combat if animated, of course, but at least it CAN be used on those frames now, when before it could not be.
-
-
-
Existing Xlong Hairstyles
-
In addition to all the new stuff I have done, I have also re-included a handful of existing Xlong hairstyles I included in the past, just so there’s a complete collection here. All of them are split into separate animation frames, now, too, instead of being on a single layer.
-
Relm Ponytail
-
https://opengameart.org/content/lpc-relm-hair-xlong-ponytail
-
My Relm hairstyle with the fully animated ponytail.
-
I tweaked the animation slightly. A few frames I didn’t like so I cleaned them up a bit. I replaced the jump frames, emote 3, a few combat frames, and added spellcast animations, too. These are the same changes I made to the standalone animation.
-
-
Xlong Braids
-
https://opengameart.org/content/lpc-relm-hair-xlong-ponytail
-
The braid was designed for the left bangs, being the opposite of the Xlong bangs seen below. I added a flipped version, though.
-
Designed to work with all Relm hairstyles, but hopefully they may work well on any hairstyles!
-
-
Xlong Bangs
-
https://opengameart.org/content/lpc-relm-hair-xlong-ponytail
-
The bangs here were designed for the right bangs, being the opposite of the Xlong Braid seen above. I added a flipped version, though.
-
The other part of the Relm hairstyle, Xlong Bangs are a more straight bang compared the braids above.
-
-
That’s all for now! I am undecided if when I make more xlong hairstyles I should just updated this page or create a new one, but I definitely have plans for more later:
-
Wavy Curly
-
The idea behind this is instead of xlong hair being curly throughout like Large Curls, this would be wavy toward the roots and only curly at the bottom.
-
If anything this is probably a more realistic take as longer curly hair would probably be wavy initially due to the weight of the hair holding it down.
-
Would probably be based on Large Curls.
-
-
Animated Large Curls
-
I only didn’t animate this now because I have other things planned and I don’t even know where to begin animating this yet. However, I do want to animate this eventually.
-
I mostly included this here to try and get some feedback because I love the hairstyle, but don’t really know how I would animate it. Plus, I wanted to release it in some way, and maybe it can find use even if its not fully animated yet.
-
-
Animated Sara
-
I will animate Sara if I find a character design I want to create that works well with Sara’s hairstyle. So far I haven’t found one yet, but I may in the future.
-
-
Grace, Summer, Xlong Ribbon (thecilekli)
-
I saw these hairstyles by thecilekli that have gone unused so far, and I really like them a lot. However, I effectively would have to redraw all of them from scratch, just tracing over the original design and cleaning it up as much as possible. They’re using way too many colors and doesn’t fit the ULPC, which is why I assume it was never included there yet.
-
In each case, there’s no animations on the hairstyles themselves. As such, I shouldn’t have a huge problem with this. I’d just have to redraw all four directions and hurt by tracing over them and following similar shading.
-
I would also have to split the layers into fg/bg, but that shouldn’t be too hard. Thecilekli made these with the body’s fully cut out, but that won’t be the best solution if you want to have them work on any body types. Instead, it’d be better to redraw the back side and only have what’s necessary in the front (over the head or the side of the body where needed).
-
Once I do get to these, I would probably do all three of them at once, though not necessarily fully animated. Probably only the initial drawing and just meshing them to all frames with lpctools.
-
Xlong Ribbon would need the ribbon layer separated out of course.
* NOTICE:
Base sprites used in preview image are part of the LPC set and were not made by me.
The Universal LPC Character Generator is a great place to get a full list of sprites to use:

Comments
Ugh finally got this one out. It was kinda hard figuring out what I wanted for the preview, so I ended up making it much larger than I intended.
The main reason for showing off both male and female is due to the fact that the hairstyles are identical; so it shows that it still works for both.
Large Curls and the Curly Bang is experimental. That's also why I ultimately ended up not animating them. I just mapped them to all frames using lpctools, which I did the same with Sara as well. Also I typo'd "lpc" in the zip file name to "lpx" but I'm not replacing it.
I know I said I was going to do Male Shirts next, but I really wanted to get these hairstyles out... they're finally done, though, so perhaps now I can actually set some time aside to get those shirts done. I want to try and have them done in a couple of weeks. I technically started on them already, but I got distracted with hair for a few weeks.
I was planning to include build instructions to rebuild the static hairstyles on all frames, but it was taking too long, so I opted to just add that in a separate zip later.
