Town & Nature tilesets (4 seasons + 2 daytimes)
My remix of the tilesets from Vikings of Midgard, which I created for use in my own games but decided to share for other game developers. I've basically condensed everything needed to make towns and outdoor environments into a single tileset, which comes in 8 different variants based on season and daytime: (spring + summer + autumn + winter) * (daytime + nighttime). Included are also matching tilesets for caves and indoors.
As always, each tileset is interchangeable with every other of its type, allowing scripts to change tilesets or the use of identical maps in order to swap season and daytime on the run! They use the master palette of Vikings, as I didn't feel like converting them to mine for now. All tilesets are licensed under the Public Domain like the originals, which were created by Fenrir Lunaris.
Tile size is 20x20, total image size is 320x200, all sets use a 256 color palette. To be used with the Vikings of Midgard backdrops: https://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/Free_Backdrops

the referenced site (https://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/Free_Backdrops ) it says "These are user-created backdrops/screens that are either in the public domain, or creative commons. They are all free to use in your game. If you are in doubt as to whether or not you need to credit the creator, it's best to get in touch with him/her." They are at least CC-BY, which is not public domain. Going further, the downloadable game's archive (at http://www.castleparadox.com/gamelist-display.php?game=768 ) tells us "this game is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License." So not only it is not public domain, but you have to release all changes back under GPLv3. Same goes with the game files included with the ohrrpgce engine.
Good job!
They are Public Domain as I talk with the creator and they've confirmed that explicitly to me. The OHRRPGCE engine is GPL, the game Vikings of Midgard is PD. Even if they were CC-BY, remixes can be relicensed to anything unlike CC-BY-SA, thus I could still release those as PD even in that scenario.
Glad you like them! Updated version are available but I haven't published them here yet.
I had previously verified the PD status of the Vikings of Midgard art assets (game code is still GPL), so MirceaKitsue is correct...
(except about remixes of CC-BY being relicensable as CC0. That is a somewhat twisted interpretation of the license. Though technically correct: remixes can be relicensed, but the originals must still be listed and credited wherever the remix is used, even if you are only using the remixed version. So the only way a remixed asset could be licensed CC0 is if you required everyone using the remixed version to credit the original... which makes it effectively CC-BY still. The difference between CC-BY and CC-BY-SA is that with -SA, you must also share the remixes under the same license, where CC-BY you are not required to share the originals or the remix, but you must still credit the original, even without making the remix available.)
Regardless, CC0 is correct in this case. :)
