Spring's Adventure Doggo!
Just thought I'd like to share a little project with you which I've been working on for little over a month or thereabouts, and which uses many assets from this site! (most of them were CC0)
It's Spring's Adventure Doggo, a cute little platformer feauring my Deviantart fur ocs. Nothing special, I guess, but still fun ^^
(The story of the game is badly explained and makes no sense)
The endings will be worked on further so that they're not just text screens.
I would also like to add that even though MNDV.ecb worked on the title logo for this game, he is uncredited in the videos shown below, I forgot to add him but the new version of the game obtainable by the link fixes this little slip up.
If you want to try it out, here is a download link: https://spring-enterprises.itch.io/springs-adventure-doggo
Enjoy!
This is really good and everything meshes well. I had a hard time seeing some of the obstacles and baddies, but I personally have this problem with a lot of low color count games, so it's just me. I have no idea what's supposed to be going on but you already mentioned the thing with the storyline, so we're cleared up there. The only real suggestion I'd have is rotating the sprite on slopes. It's normally a thing that doesn't stand out, but the player character is wide, so he's kinda out there. Either way, not a big deal. Overall, you did wonderfully!
Ah thanks!
I would consider it one of my best games so far.
I'm probably not gonna do the rotataion thing you mentioned but thanks for the suggestion anyway. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Can I ask how far you got?
yo spring i'm trying this out but i was wondering... is there a command line option of some kind to allow me to run the thing in a window?
i work on EXTREMELY old laptops, outside, in the texas heat, so i have to watch my CPU temp whenever i run anything. ANYTHING.
looks good though! i like the weapon stacking and the music is killer; i will have to check out some of your chiptunes! i also like how you showcased the rebound function in your vids ;p
Level 3 is when I hopped off.
@vinnNo. 0 Ah ok, the reason why I asked is because I found enemies harder to spot against the background in earlier levels than later ones.
@MNDV.ecb I can work on a way to make this happen :) don't know when though.
@MNDV.ecb updated the game and link. You can now press F7 on the title screen to switch to windowed mode.
window mode is a nice (i would argue necessary) feature for any game.
played it for a bit, i havent beaten the level 3 boss yet. For some reason i thought the weapons were stacking but i was mistaken.
i did notice two things:
1. twice my doggo was struck by nothingness, maybe old colliders or something not recycling properly.
2. even though the E-wheel boss thingy kilt me, i got a world completed screen... then started over at the pre-boss checkpoint.
the death animation is great; it reminds me of chuck rock from SNES.
Hmm, I thought I had fixed both the bugs you were talking about, but apparently not yet! Let me see if I can replicate them.
Oh yeah, almost forgot, the stacking weapons were removed. :P
window mode works and is nice. just FYI when i press f7 a few times in a row the program crashes in a bad way, so either something else is wrong or the engine or whatever can't handle fast toggles.
maybe i should mention that i did have kymi before the boss fight? perhaps that is related to the world completed bug?
i'll complete it someday and give you a review.
I think the crashing when switched between windowed and fullscreen is related to the music playing system, which uses an external dlll running in parallel with the game process itself, that probably doesn't take the window switching too nicely and is also the reason why the music stutters when pressing f7.
I hurried through with a new build which fixes the boss bug, it's related to the boss despawning when he goes offsceen (because regular enemies are set to do that and the boss inherits code from those) but that should be fixed. The collision bugs are kind of unpredictable, personally I didn't find any doing the fight but I know they're around.
I also re-added the stacking weaponry, apart from the rockets.
Looking forward to hearing what you think!
still gotta beat it, but i like the stacking, definitely. it makes me more sad when i kill the dog if i have the rocks and the frisbees and the boomerangs.
letcha know when i finish
Ok, thanks. The stacking weapons might work better like you say.
i have gotten to gyonkaiju village and i can't swing on the rope! i was in smallscreen mode, if that matters at all.
i've noticed no further bugs except the big jump when starting from a checkpoint, and that some of the enemies do dumb stuff... mostly during the level with that animated water background (which looks excellent, btw) when you start at chkpnt 1 or 2 the enemey runs into the squid hole and just stays there. not a big deal, just looks funny.
The rope swinging works fine for me, but you need to press the up arrow key when in contact with a rope, not just hold it down. I don't know if that might be the issue? If not I'll have a look through the code more thouroughly.
I'm not 100% sure what causes the high jump after checkpoint bug, but nice to see that the bosses are working at least ^^ (I hope!)
I think the enemies getting stuck in holes is just a minor issue like you say, I can of course make them jump over the holes, as I don't really want them to turn around. That would make the pigs harder to deal with though.
Looks like a funny game. :) Will there be a GNU/Linux version?
Ahh, maybe in the future but not right now, as I'm not sure about how to get GMS2 to compile for that.
I watched all three videos. That was entertaining! Good job. That game is longer than any game I've made. Did you use a game engine?
Alex McCulloch
this is the longest game I have ever created. lol https://youtu.be/pIeyAJpw0ZU

@Amac1990 this uses Game Maker ^^
Do you need help with the story, Spring? I can help you with some ideas.
I guess.... probably not? There is a story, it's just not very well explained.
It would still be great to hear your ideas though, I might use those in another game!
Ah... what I meant was a few tweaks to help clean up the story a bit so that it's better explained is all. <3 But sure, I can help with future projects.
Ahh, no no, I'm curious to hear what tweaks you would have suggested?
Having your advice in future projects would be great as well!
Well, I'd have to take a look at all the dialogue in your game, so far, to see what can be improved. We can talk about all that on discord when you have time. Just shoot me a DM. <3
Yes, I'll do that sometime. ^^
This game is now available on itch.io, as a result this link on OGA will be taken down.

Just updated this with a few bugfixes and some changed graphics, the game might be extended in the future ^^'
A preview of the new art style to come in a visual overhaul!
