I don't know if having the art themes be related would be a great idea-- it'd lock you into a duality, whereas two unrelated things would be more open to interpretation.
@dannorder - Thank you! I'll be adding many more to the LPC collection, I'm sure. Oh, and thanks for starting the event. :) I've been enjoying the entries.
So-- I hadn't planned on doing this, except that I was actually needing baby sprites for the game I'm making, which is a huge coincidence. Anyhow, here's my entry! Liberated Pixel Cup baby sprites!
Thank you, BlueCarrot! Both for the offer and the follow. I really appreciate it. :)
The commission I was considering is less LPC styled and more classic pixel-doll portraiture with additive features-- different face shapes, eye shapes, mouth shapes, different skin tones, that sort of thing. I'm willing to look at alternatives, but it seems like a lot to ask for free.
That said, LPC and the community here has had a big part of making this game possible, so what I'll probably do is buy the commission and then make it CC3-by-SA. It seems like a nice way to give back to you all, and I think it'd be really useful.
Portraits aside I do have an LPC wishlist I'll happily share. :) Right now, these things would come in handy:
A 'hurt' animation for LPC children (Kheftel's Standing Child Base) with my skin pallete. Or the standard skin-- I can recolor anything pretty easily.
Some sort of pregnancy base for the LPC females. (Which is asking for a lot, I know.)
Some sort of seed-bag-thing? Or box, or envelope. It'd need to be somewhat small, but easily distinguished from seeds of other types.
My color pallete with five skin tones, for reference: I do have photoshop and a pretty spiffy tablet, so don't feel obligated. :) And thanks again for the offer! Edit: I did the babies myself, so it's been removed from the wish list.
Thank you, everyone! I'll poke you once I've got a playable build for some early testing, when I get there. :)
In the meantime, I've got the basic job system and inventory items up and I'm working on a rough character UI. Growing plants and passing time are up next.
I'm interested in how that goes-- I'd be willing to donate my time to help out. (I'm a software engineer with four years of professional web development under my belt, most of that in PHP.)
The map generator's in! I can make as many biomes as I want now-- just add the art, set the likelihoods of each feature and watch it change the look and feel. Trees can be cut, grass and dirt tilled. Randomly generated LPC characters have their walk animations set up.
Now I need to get the job system in place so the characters are triggering falling trees, not the 'chop' command. I also need to program an inventory system.
And again, LPC people, you're awesome. :D
(This is all procedurally generated, by the way. No level editing.)

Go for it. I don't mind. :) I'm neck-deep in The Last Score dev, so any challenges I participate in will be for that first and contests second.
Just a note-- Sanglorian didn't post his second entry here, but I think it's an entry if the tags are any indication: http://opengameart.org/content/tuxemon-babies-chibi
@Sanglorian - Oh, they're adorable! Awesome job!!!

Edit: updated the picture. The side view bothered me.
