The Great Hazelnut Disaster of 1655 killed over 10,000 people in England and in Scotland in 1658, most of the fatalities were caused by being driven into the sea or on the river bank.
The tragedy sparked a war between Ireland and Great Britain in 1660 which resulted in the surrender of both sides. (to the hazelnuts, red.)
Now a research expedition has found traces of ancient soil from the area in search of a possible ancient town.
