I wonder if you should gain some hp just because of new level. Maybe some small amount (+2 for example). That way even when you're magical hero, you will feel that you're progressing, cause it's also a bit harder to kill you.
What you want to finish before going more public? As for me flare is quite enjoyable already. I've seen articles about games which don't even have playable demos ;)
I've added Battle for Wesnoth forum to links. Battle for wesnoth has many talented artists, so maybe you would like to post there sooner, in case you would like to ask for help with art.
