I've seen that if you talk about game plans, you can get great ideas. For example, I talked about doing an HTML5 game like BrowserQuest, and Bart mentioned that since BrowserQuest itself is open source, I could use it as starter code.
Thanks for trying out my game. I went ahead and upgraded my Opera to 11.62. Yes, it does lag after a while of playing, probably issues with Opera's garbage collector. Didn't crash for me though. Not sure what "black enemies" you are talking about. It could be an image failed to load, a refresh should fix that.
Your solution for touch input is pretty much what I've implemented. But the only problem seems to be on some mobile platforms there is a double tap zoom feature that gets in the way. I have not been able to disable that.
I'm no longer working on this game, I've got another project now. But I've open sourced it, so anyone who wants can go ahead and try to make it better.
Not exactly 100% open art: the restriction is that they cannot be redistributed as is for free on other sites. But they are free to use and modify, even for commercial use. They have an FAQ you can read if you have questions.
I don't know anything about Crafty, but JQuery is mostly useless. I wasn't using AJAX and the rest of JQuery just papers over differences between IE<9 and modern browsers. I just simply ignored IE<9. You can see I handle things like custom events without JQuery just fine by doing it the standard compliant way.
Was Crafty really helpful? I wonder if it would have been worth the time to go learn it.
I finally found a hqnx program that works on pngs with transparency support. Unfortunately it is command line only at this point, but here it is. It is LGPL too, so if someone wants to finish the job and turn it into a GIMP filter...
