I used Debian for all of my servers, have been for years. I just cannot shake Windows for the desktop though, even though I dual boot all of my laptops I just never stay in a Linux desktop for over a few hours until I need something that is Windows only.
Realistically creating a game is such a massive undertaking, just to get it finished without the art is a monumental task. I am just not wanting to take on so much I never get the job completed. I think I could use mostly placeholder art for a while but past a certain point I will need a rather large complete tileset. Maybe I will just start slow and see how I do an a few small tiles, baby steps.
I may try my hand at it, but I am still a newbie about all of the other portions that are more in tune with my skills, so I have to figure those out first.
@Eric Matyas exactly, and I appreciate having this resource available. I still have a long ways to go. I have been kicking around the idea of making a game for a few years now but only recently has everything 'clicked' into place for me. It is easy to get discouraged when learning the ropes and I finally found a way to constructively stay motivated.
@m7600 Oh man you just listed all of the greats!
Exactly. That is why I am shying away from the artwork too much just yet.

@m7600 what are you actually using to create your tiles? Are you using Photoshop or some other tool?
Yep, ran across that a few times while doing Google research on it.
I am digging it. For the first time ever I am going to try to do a single tile tomorrow, it is my goal for the day. Baby steps.
You added a ladder! The bar is icing on the cake! Any thoughts on different decor on the rugs?
I do not remember the bottles in the previous tileset, that looks new.
