TheKingofDemons: I suppose I can offer some advice.
Is it a 3D game (e.g. OpenGL) or 2D?
If 2D, are you using 3D models to pre-render 2D sprites?
This perspective is definitely easy to use if you're doing pixel art, but 3D rendering is obviously tricky. As you can see by all the above gymnastics.
p0ss, I will probably switch over to that gui at some point. Though if there's high demand for it I can switch sooner.
Right now the positions of elements in my menus are fixed. I'd like to have it so every menu has a config file instead, showing which elements to display where. Then reskinning the game would not require recompilation.
As for releasing linux installers: I'm a linux noob but I would love to do this. It's on my to-do list. I don't know the best practices for releasing on linux in general, much less what each distro prefers.
Anon, we can do Flare art commissions through OpenGameArt. Perhaps next time I need a set of art that might be popular, I'll get Bart to make it the monthly donation goal.
Anon, I think about making a good 3D skeleton warrior at least once a week. I have to stop myself. If I chase after high quality 3D art I'll never finish Flare.
Masterful. I'm pretty sure these icons will encourage me to upgrade my entire Flare spell system.
If you want a Diablo camera the settings are easier. Put the camera at angle (x,y,z) = (60,0,45).
If you want a pure engineering-schematic style Isometric view, Put the camera angle at (x,y,z) = (54.736,0,45) and set the camera to Orthogonal.

Pompei2, once Flare goes Beta I will pursue this opensuse build service. Thanks for the reminder!

This isn't complete enough for the challenge, but here's a kickstarting idea.

A modern Asteroids remake would look handsome with these sprites!

But.... one day.
Buch: interpret the challenge however you wish. This challenge is intentionally abstract
Tartos: yes the flare hero comes from this model.
However, I neglected to apply the Scale to this model (to reset it to 1.0 in all dimensions). If you'll be doing animations I suggest starting with these http://www.opengameart.org/content/cleaned-up-base-human-models
